Manchester United have spent close to a staggering £1billion on transfers since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club at the end of the 2012-13 Premier League season.Despite splashing out huge transfer fees, United have found themselves slowly slipping out of contention for titles, with rivals Manchester City spending similar money yet reaping the rewards in silverware.Ferguson, who managed the club for 27 years, was replaced by David Moyes. Since then, United have been managed by Ryan Giggs as a caretaker, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and the current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Here Sportsmail looks at every signing Manchester United managers have made since Ferguson left the club… David Moyes and a succession of managers have spent huge amounts at Manchester UnitedDavid MoyesJuan Mata (£37million)The Spaniard joined from Premier League rivals Chelsea in January 2014 having been their Player of the Year the season before but then falling out of favour under Jose Mourinho, who had returned for a second spell in charge at Stamford Bridge.Mata still regularly features in the Manchester United side and is one of the most experienced dressing-room figures. VERDICT: HIT Juan Mata has been an important part of the Manchester United squad since arriving in 2014Marouane Fellaini (£28million)The Belgian joined Manchester United on transfer deadline day in the summer of 2013, following Moyes from Goodison Park. He failed to make an impact under Moyes and the managers who followed and quickly became an impact substitute instead of a starter. Was responsible for some of United’s biggest moments post-Fergie. More of a success than most. VERDICT: HITLouis van Gaal Angel di Maria (£59.7 million) The Argentine joined from Real Madrid with plenty of fanfare and the fee was the highest ever paid by a British club at the time. It’s safe to say, his time in Manchester was not the best with just four goals in all competitions. Never truly settled in England after suffering the shock of being home with his family when burglars attempted to break into his property. He has since revived his career and is an integral part of the PSG squad.VERDICT: MISS Angel Di Maria had a torrid time at Manchester United, lasting just one Premier League seasonAnthony Martial (£36million)The Frenchman joined United in a deadline-day scramble for a striker and add-ons meant the fee could rise to £58m if certain conditions were met. There was plenty of pressure on Martial, who hit the ground running with three goals in his first two matches. His time at the club has had frustrating spells though; falling behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcus Rashford under Mourinho. But when fit he now he looks to be an important part of Solskjaer’s plans going forward. VERDICT: HITMorgan Schneiderlin (£31million)Another player from the Van Gaal era that was meant to make a significant impact, but didn’t. Signed from Southampton, the central midfielder was one of the hottest prospects in the Premier League but failed to show his worth in Manchester United red. The 29-year-old has since left the club for Everton, where is still trying to rediscover the form from his Southampton days. VERDICT: MISS Morgan Schneiderlin failed to make an impact at United and has since moved to EvertonLuke Shaw (£30million)Shaw had a hard time settling in at Manchester United due to injury problems in his first couple of seasons.
